Questions
How much time will I need to devote to each video?
Our 10-session video curriculum ranges from 40 to 60 minutes for each session depending on how much time you might take in the workbook. On average count on 45 minutes at your computer with another 60 minutes during the week for "homework." As is the case with any other spiritual pursuit, you will reap according to the level you sow. We suggest taking one video session each week. That seems to be the optimum pace, so figure 10 weeks to complete the whole program. Because it is self-guided, you can go faster or slower at your own desired pace.
What exactly is the homework in between sessions?
Homework generally consists of three main parts - answering the questions in the workbook in advance of the next video session, a short reading assignment in material we provide, and a dedicated 15 - 20 minute intentional conversation with your son about a topic we suggest each session. The weekly conversations with your sons will likely be different than your current versions. The focus will be on developing an intentional rapport and trust, building up to the "Final Exam" roadtrip for you and your son.
What is the reading material to review in between the video sessions?
Included in the price of our program is an electronic copy of Raising a Modern Day Knight by Robert Lewis. Lewis is universally credited with the 4-part definition that we use of what it means to be a Godly man. We will not use the whole book during our time together, but his expertise and wisdom on the subject is second to none. We will average a chapter a week in his book alongside the the unique subject matter in each video session.
Why is the cost cheaper to do it with another Dad as opposed to by myself?
This curriculum is an incredible value for any Dad at the single price (of $150). The reason we offer the steep discount for two Dads taking the course together ($60 each) is the synergy and accountability involved with doing this journey together. Ideally, we want you to do it with another Dad. But we have accommodated a Dad doing it with his wife. Ultimately, Mom will need to be onboard too.
Dads and Moms come at this material from two differing (sometimes contrary) points of view. Totally a generalization here... but Dads are meant to lead their sons into manhood. Moms tend to disagree at the timing or pace at which that should be done. Moms as a rule will see their young boy as "not ready" to begin the transition to manhood. Usually it's an ungrounded fear that they are going to lose their "little boy." We present a clear and convincing strategy and mission that the time is now, but do with this information as you see fit.
